Cythera walked down the hall towards the library, not really paying attention to where she was going, though her feet uneringly took her in the right
direction. She was deeply engrosed in a new history she had found, and all her attention was for the book. It was one about the Copper Isles before luarin
rule, and was very interesting. She stoped to yawn and rub her eyes, then went back to reading and walking. She was going to work, and hoped there wouldn't
be anyone there before her, for if there was, she would have to put the book away and begin her duties.

(Sorry I took such a while, I meant to respond more quickly!)
Matt strolled down the hall towards the library, not far behind a short librarian (the uniform was unmistakable) with blonde hair. He had been up all night and looked it, chasing a lead on the case he'd discussed with Ben some time before- he knew there was something he was missing, something relatively easy and simple, and hoped that with a little investigative magic he could discover it, but despite ransacking his rooms and searching his library, he had not been able to find any books on the precise type of investigative magic he wanted, nor had he been able to find the piece of information that he was convinced was the key to the entire macabre puzzle. So, as soon as an early-rising librarian might have opened the Palace library for the morning, he had left his rooms to search there for something -anything- that might spark his mind into filling in the gaps. He slipped ahead of the librarian and held the door open for her, since she was reading as she walked and looked so absorbed that she might well walk into the door.

When Cythera was about half-way to the library, she noticed someone following her. She dismissed it as someone who wanted to go to the library, and went back to reading her book. When she got to the library, she had just stopped to open the door, when the man did it for her. She made a little curtsey, and entered. "Thank you, is there anything you need?" She asked politely, finding a bookmark and closing her book. Courage is the same thing as insanity, just in smaller measures.

The librarian curtseyed politely. Matt made the usual small half-bow in response, stepped into the library and shut the door after him. The librarian marked
her page, and asked:
"Thank you, is there anything you need?" "Yes, actually- I was looking for a book on investigative magics," Matt explained. "Not scrying, but summoning place-memory to try and find out what happened somewhere and tracing footsteps using personal objects as a focus. I'm a practising mage here at the palace, I am allowed to take out such books-" He suddenly realised that he hadn't picked up the card that proved he was trusted to take books of magic out of the library without using the spells and information in them to explode things, attempt to stage a coup, spy unlawfully or do anything else liable to harm others with them, and rifled his pockets for it, just in case. It wasn't there. "Oh... Oh, damn. I haven't got my card. Am I allowed to take the books out anyway, if they're here?"

Cythera listened intently to his description of the books he needed, thinking hard about what books on magic they had. That was one area she didn't have
too much knowlage in, for she was afraid if she handled them to much she would trigger some magic or other. Ah, they did have at least one, she didn't know
if there were more, but she did remember one about that subject. "Um, I'm not exactly sure, we've never had that problem before. Probably though,
I'll let you have them." She went to the shelf that held the book she remembered and got it down, then turned around and handed it to him. "Here,
this should be what you're looking for, just tell me if you need more information, I can see if we have any more."

Gratifyingly, the librarian listened closely to his explanation of what he was looking for -Matt had suffered too many impatient librarians not keen on helping
a floundering, uninfluential mage before- and was also very helpful about his not having the library pass. "Um, I'm not exactly sure,
we've never had that problem before. Probably though, I'll let you have them."
"Thanks," Matt said, watching her fetch a book from the shelves. "I'm sorry, it was stupid of me to forget it." He accepted the book she gave him, and looked at the spine: Investigational Magic, The Neglected Field of Study: A Beginning. "Here, this should be what you're looking for, just tell me if you need more information, I can see if we have any more." "Thanks," Matt said again, slightly absently, opening the book to the index page and skimming down it. "I think this should do nicely." He sat down, and started to skim the introduction, and then a thought occurred to him. "Actually, can you check and see if there's anything else on the same subject? If I sit down here and start reading, I may get carried away and end up reading to the end because it's interesting, and I need information more than I need interesting at the moment. This is quite urgent, that's why I'm up at this stupid hour."
I'm May. Pleased to meet you. :)

Cythera watched him skim through anxiously, hoping she had gotten the right book. She almost sighed in relief when he said it was fine. "Uh, sure,
I'll go look." She said, and made good on her word, going to the magic section and starting to skim the titles. Hmm, A guide to healing, no. A
complete encyclopedia of magic, no. Investigative magic, details and workings. That should do. She thought, taking it off the shelf. She skimmed a bit
more, finding two more books that looked promising and took them over. "Here, this should probably be enough."

"Uh, sure, I'll go look."
"Thanks!" Matt called after the librarian as she vanished in the direction of the magic section, but he wasn't sure she heard, and simply went back to his book. The helpful librarian returned- it suddenly occurred to him he didn't know her name, and he wondered if perhaps she was relatively new here at the library -with three relevant books. "Here, this should probably be enough." Matt glanced at the spine. "Thank you. These are perfect."

Cythera watched the mage glance at the spine anxiously, hoping they were the right ones. "Thank you. These are perfect." "That
is good to hear, I'm glad they're of use." She said, relieved, she didn't know much about magic, and hadn't been sure she had read them
right. She suddenly realized she had not introduced herself, and he couldn't know her, as she hadn't even seen him before this. "Sorry, I have
forgotten to introduce myself, I am Cythera, librarian and assistant historian. Who are you?"

"That is good to hear, I'm glad they're of use."
Matt looked up at the librarian and smiled. She seemed to be anxious about the usefulness of the books, when in truth she had picked out just the right ones. He wondered if they trained librarians to find out the best books on any subject, or if it was some sort of hereditary knack, and in which case how did it work... His mind was wandering. Not unnatural after his late night and copious consumption of coffee to keep himself awake, but undesirable, so he dragged it back to the present. "They are indeed." "Sorry, I have forgotten to introduce myself, I am Cythera, librarian and assistant historian. Who are you?" the librarian asked. Matt, who had stood to receive the books and had been skimming quickly through the indexes, put them aside briefly. "I'm Matthias Amritsang," he supplied, "mostly known as That Damned Nuisance, Cursed Wretch, or if you're really pushed for something to call me, Matt." He half-bowed, as was proper, and then grinned. "I prefer to be called Matt."

Cythera listened to the titles he listed, wondering why anyone would call him something so bad. "Why do they call you that? It doesn't seem very
kind." She asked, puzzled, he didn't seem like a bad person, and usualy people had at least some basis for what they nicknamed people.

"Why do they call you that? It doesn't seem very kind."
Matt smiled a little ruefully. "It's not, really, but I don't mind. It's usually said by people whose opinion I don't value very much, and I've been told often that they're wrong. I annoy people, just by being cheerful. There's a certain kind of person, I'm sure you know the type, who really hates that, and I am unfortunate enough to meet a lot of them." He shrugged. "Doesn't matter."

Cythera listened to his answer, and grinned, he didn't seem one who would be fazed by a little opposition. Though she still didn't understand the type
of people who didn't like happiness. "Yah, though why they're annoyed I don't know. Well, I have to get back to work, just tell me if you need
anything." She said brightly, and went over to help someone else who had come in and looked as if they were looking for something.

(OOC: This is finished, I think? Unless you want to add anything?)
"Yah, though why they're annoyed I don't know. Well, I have to get back to work, just tell me if you need anything," the librarian- Cythera -told him. "Thanks, I will," Matt said, already reading, and the librarian went away to assist somebody else, some kind of clerk Matt thought, who seemed in need of help. Matt continued to read. The information he needed had to be here somewhere.

(ooc: yah, closed, I wish I could lock it...)
Cythera showed the clerk what he wanted, a geneology of nobles, and turned to check on the mage, he was doing fine, so she went off to help more people and pick up books they had left lying around. Courage is the same thing as insanity, just in smaller measures.
